Carshalton and Wallington MP, Tom Brake, is pressing the Government to change the law to allow local authorities, who are currently forced to pay for the Lee Valley Regional Park, to invest in other parks, like the Wandle Valley Regional Park.
Tom is supporting local council members who no longer wish to continue subsidising the Lee Valley Regional Park. Instead, they want to use the money to provide further funding for other regional parks. Tom Brake is fighting for the choice to invest this money in the Wandle Valley Regional Park, partly-located in Sutton Borough. Tom said, “It is no longer rational to continue to require other London boroughs to pay for the Lee Valley Regional Park. Many of my constituents have never been to the Lee Valley Regional Park. We cannot expect residents to pay for something they have not even seen. I challenge the Government to amend this legislation so we can build up a fund to invest in the Wandle Valley Regional Park. The Wandle Valley Regional Park, part of which runs through the borough of Sutton, encompasses several local parks and green spaces, linked by the Wandle Trail. The park is currently working on restoration projects and building up its recreational facilities. Increased funding through this amendment would be useful in facilitating these activities. Sutton police are reminding car owners not to leave anything in their vehicles after an incident in Carshalton Beeches.
On the 11th January 2016 at 2215 hours a resident of Southway Carshalton Beeches captured on CCTV four males attempting to break into motor vehicles in that road. Apparently they were trying door handles of every car in the street and had posted a look out. This was a well planned matter, but it appears that nothing was stolen and no damage was caused. The suspects of which there were four of them are described as late teens, the footage is black and white and not of great quality. Please leave nothing in your motor vehicle, not even leads to a mobile phone etc or the housing for a satnav left on the windscreen, as the temptation for the thief to look further is too great.
