A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment for obtaining cash and goods using bank cards belonging to three elderly female residents.

Police are appealing for information about the whereabouts of George Patching, aged 24, who is wanted in connection with five burglary offences. Three of the burglaries relate to business premises in Carshalton and Wallington during April and May this year. Patching is known to have links to Sutton, Carshalton, Mitcham and Tooting. His last known address was in Tull Street, Mitcham. If you see Patching contact police immediately on 999. If you have any other information about him contact Sutton Police station on 101. As part of its ongoing, multimillion pound age and condition water mains renewal programme, Sutton and East Surrey Water (SESW) will begin the next phase of works to replace ageing mains in Victoria Road, Horley. The current three inch cast iron main, which dates back to 1889, will be replaced by a new, larger diameter high performance plastic pipe.
Sutton Green party have selected Ross Hemingway to stand as the Green party candidate in the upcoming Carshalton Central ward by-election.
Ross Hemingway lives in Carshalton and previously stood as the candidate for the Carshalton and Wallington constituency at the 2015 General Election. He works for anti-poverty charity War on Want, and previously the international development charity, Christian Aid. Ross said: "It's a privilege to stand as the Green party candidate. If elected, I promise to be the strong alternative voice residents in Carshalton Central ward deserve." Following the resignation, and subsequent arrest, of Lib Dem Councillor Alan Salter, a by-election has been called for the Carshalton Central ward, which will be held on Thursday 28th July 2016.
The Sutton Borough Conservative Federation yesterday (Saturday 25th June 2016) selected Melissa Pearce as their candidate Melissa lives in Carshalton with her husband and two young children. She is an Area Manager for a global civil engineering professional body, and has been inspired to become a Councillor by the passion and dedication of the volunteers that she manages. She is an active member of the local community as a governor at the Harris Junior Academy. As well as her day job, she helps out the Parent Teacher Association at her children’s school, whenever possible, and assists with the children’s liturgy at church. Melissa said: “I am delighted to have been chosen as the Conservative Candidate for the Carshalton Central By-Election. I have become increasingly concerned by the lack of accountability of decisions taken by the Lib Dem Council; not least the selling of the Lodge in Carshalton Central for £1m under the estimated market value, at a time when cuts are being made to services. “I want to be a strong voice for residents in Carshalton Central. Sutton’s crackdown on Blue Badge fraudsters continues with three more drivers convicted at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 21 June.
They all pleaded guilty to using Blue Badges to park close to Sutton Town Centre without the named Badge Holder present. Blue Badges are issued for the sole use of a named individual and are only valid when it is being used by, or for, the disabled person when that person is present. It is stated clearly on the Badge that misuse may constitute a criminal offence. They all pleaded guilty in Court. Sutton Council has shown its support for members of the Armed Forces ahead of Armed Forces Day (Saturday 25 June), by raising the British Armed Forces Day Flag in Sutton town centre. Armed Forces Day is an annual opportunity for the nation to show its support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets. The title reflects the wider Armed Forces family of serving personnel – both regular and reserve, as well as veterans, cadet forces and the service families. London Fire Brigade’s 999 control officers have taken over 550 weather related emergency calls and firefighters have attended over 400 incidents as heavy rain and thunder storms hit the capital overnight.
Firefighters are still attending a number of flooding incidents this morning. Police found a cannabis factory when they carried out a drugs warrant at a flat in Brighton Road, Sutton, on Wednesday, 22 June.
Officers forced entry to the address at around 11:00hrs and found a tent equipped to grow cannabis and around 60 cannabis plants drying. An elderly couple who lived in Sutton were among the victims in a countrywide crime spree which involved residents being tricked into revealing their PIN and giving up their bank cards.
All the victims were contacted by telephone at their homes and told that they needed to collect together their bank cards and put them into an envelope with their name on it ready to be collected by a ‘courier’. |
