The development of the Sutton One Housing Zone will "help Sutton achieve their vision to reshape and tansform the town centre and Hackbridge " according to London Mayor Boris Johnson.
In a recent meeting of the London Assembly Assembly Member for Croydon & Sutton Steve O'Connell posed the questions to the Mayor as to the impact of the Housing Zone. "The Housing Zone will accelerate and unlock delivery of at least 1,672 units by March 2024. Housing Zone designation will help Sutton achieve their vision to reshape and transform the town centre and Hackbridge. "The Housing Zone will help bring forward Council owned sites for housing development; deliver a range of housing, from town centre living for single people and couples, to family housing in Hackbridge; invest in new housing through Sutton’s new housing development company; and consolidate key development sites not in third party ownership to secure the delivery of additional housing," he wrote. Residents are being invited to volunteer to be ‘uninjured survivors’ in a simulated disaster incident in Sutton which will be the largest multi-agency exercise of its kind to be held in South West London.
Volunteers will be assigned role characters so they can provide details and give information at a survivor reception centre which would be set up in the aftermath of a major incident. Officers from St Helier Safer Neighbourhoods Team were on hand to greet visitors to a crime prevention awareness open day at Bishop Andrewes' Church, Wigmore Road, Carshalton, on Saturday, 17 October. Other organisations supporting the initiative were Sutton Trading Standards, Sutton Neighbourhood Watch, Age UK and SCILL. PC Carol Godwin, of St Helier Safer Neighbourhoods Team, commented: "This was all about working with our partner organisations to reduce the chances of local residents being targeted by criminals and unscrupulous traders calling at their home." Police advise residents not to allow any unknown and unexpected callers inside your home. If you are suspicious of anyone calling at your door, shut the door keeping them outside, and call police on 999. We would rather come out and check that everything is OK, than to find someone who has become a victim of crime. Residents who want improvement work carried out on their homes are advised to check out any companies and obtain references from previous customers - before agreeing to any work. Most reputable companies will be happy to supply such information. Sutton Council has a Safer Sutton Trader Scheme which seeks to help residents avoid bogus builders and unscrupulous traders. To find an approved trader please visit the Safer Sutton Trader Scheme website at: www.sutton.gov.uk/ssts or call 020 8770 5070 for details. A 67-year-old woman who answered an early morning knock at the door whilst wearing her dressing gown was assaulted by a 20-year-old male caller who pushed his way into her hallway, grabbed her by the throat and kissed her face. The woman shouted and screamed, broke free and ran out of her flat to alert neighbours who called the police. The caller - Tashan Finn - left the address in Park Road, Cheam, running at first and then walking towards Park Lane. Finn had called at the woman’s address 15 minutes earlier at around 08:30hrs on Saturday, 9 May 2015 saying he was a builder and asking for money owed from a building job. He also questioned the woman about whether her husband was at home. She said she didn’t have a husband and that he must have the wrong address. She shut the door leaving the caller outside. The woman suffered a minor abrasion to her hand in the struggle with the caller when he returned the second time. Police carried out local enquiries which led to Finn being identified. He was arrested at his home address. At Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 22 October, Finn (01.01.1995), of Chantry Way, Mitcham, was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment suspended for two years after being found guilty of common assault. |
