A 67-year-old woman who answered an early morning knock at the door whilst wearing her dressing gown was assaulted by a 20-year-old male caller who pushed his way into her hallway, grabbed her by the throat and kissed her face.
The woman shouted and screamed, broke free and ran out of her flat to alert neighbours who called the police.
The caller - Tashan Finn - left the address in Park Road, Cheam, running at first and then walking towards Park Lane.
Finn had called at the woman’s address 15 minutes earlier at around 08:30hrs on Saturday, 9 May 2015 saying he was a builder and asking for money owed from a building job.
He also questioned the woman about whether her husband was at home. She said she didn’t have a husband and that he must have the wrong address. She shut the door leaving the caller outside.
The woman suffered a minor abrasion to her hand in the struggle with the caller when he returned the second time.
Police carried out local enquiries which led to Finn being identified. He was arrested at his home address.
At Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 22 October, Finn (01.01.1995), of Chantry Way, Mitcham, was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment suspended for two years after being found guilty of common assault.
