Louie, a five-year-old, male, black and white cat, went roaming from his home in Chaucer House, Chaucer Gardens, Sutton, at around 17:00hrs on Monday, 18 January.
All seemed well on Tuesday, 19 January as neighbours spotted the cat exploring local streets and gardens.
But when Louie returned home at 10:45hrs on Tuesday, 19 January, he was found to have a large cut to his nose, a sticky substance around his neck and his front leg severed and hanging off attached only by skin.
The cat’s owner, a woman in her 20s, described herself as being ‘hysterical’ as she took Louie to an emergency vet who reported that the cut was too clean to have been caused by accident.
Louie was put down on Thursday, 21 January after losing his fight against his injuries and infection.
The cat owner purchased Louie as a ‘well done’ to her son, aged nine, after he had recovered from treatment in hospital for stomach problems.
Police believe the cat may have put up a fight and the perpetrator may have suffered cuts to hands and arms.
