Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake recently questioned Ministry of Defence about support for local Homes for Heroes and the support they plan to give local authorities, like Sutton, which are keen on establishing a Home for Heroes Housing site.
A number of the borough's organisations and charities have received the support of a new forum which has been established. The Carshalton Co-op Local Forum has been set up as one of 37 pilot projects around the country investigating how the Co-op its branches and its staff can get more engaged with its members and their local community. Worcester Park fitness expert and owner of TFW London, Malcolm Taylor, will be performing pushups at the Asda Store in sutton to raise money to buy food for AgeUK in Sutton. “I am proud to be a part of this attempt and working alongside AgeUK Sutton to raise funds for this great cause” Taylor said. “We are asking for a minimum donation of £1.00 for every pushup performed, with 100% of that money going to the buy food to be used in hampers for the elderly over the holiday period. AgeUK sutton provide a range of services for Sutton's older people, their families and carers. thier practice of integrated working means services work closely with one another as well as heath and social care sectors to deliver wrap-aroud support that empowers older people. Each individual's Circle of Support is unique, based on their needs and goals. It is not uncommon for those in later life to find themselves with no one to turn to, especially in times of need. This lack of support can have far-reaching effects on health and wellbeing. Details When: December 4th 2015 Time: 11:30 am location: Front of store ASDA Sutton Three of Sutton's volunteer police cadets were given an unprecedented opportunity to shadow senior Met Police officers as part of the annual Children's Commissioner Takeover Day which gives young people the opportunity to work with adults and to get involved in decision-making in their organisations. Police in Sutton took part in a major counter terrorism operation on Thursday, 26 November to provide reassurance to the public, protect public places and to disrupt criminal activities. The operation involved Safer Neighbourhoods officers, officer colleagues from Roads and Transport Policing Command and British Transport Police. How about buying your Christmas tree locally and helping a borough youth group into the bargain. The sale of Christmas trees is on behalf of the Ruskin Explorer Scout Unit and will take place on the 5th & 6th December and is to be held at: The Scout Hall, 30 Ruskin Road, Carshalton, SM5 3DE The group will offer free local delivery. They are fund raising in aid of a minibus and are hoping that after this year’s sale we will have raised enough funds to be able to purchase a vehicle. Sutton Centre for Independent Living and Learning is always looking for volunteers to support its services.
