When is Giving Tuesday? This year #GivingTuesday will take place on Tuesday December 1st and its a great opportunity for the borough's charities to get involved.
Get Involved
This campaign works because there is no right or wrong idea for #GivingTuesday. Charities can do what works best, after all, who knows your supporters better than you? Taking part in #GivingTuesday can support your Christmas campaigns, and provide a national focus for something you would like to do in your community, or simply help raise the profile of your cause.
There are lots of things that you can do to make the most of this national day of giving and below are a few ideas to get you started. Please don’t feel like you have to do any of these - or feel free to do all of them, or do just one. The choice really is yours.
launch your Christmas fundraising campaign
organise a fundraiser
go on a volunteer drive
start a social media campaign
sign people up to direct debit giving
announce a partnership with a company or secure matched funding.
You will need to be active on social media as #GivingTuesday is all about harnessing the power of social media and the internet for good. Whether you are on Twitter or Facebook, or both, or even for those active on other social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest, just make sure that you include either the #GivingTuesday or #GivingTuesdayUK hashtag on your posts on December 1st.
Boost your existing campaign
If you’ve already pinned down what you are doing for your Christmas campaign and you don’t have the additional time or resources to create something new and bespoke for #GivingTuesday, it really doesn’t matter!
#GivingTuesday can be a brilliant way to give your planned campaign or Christmas appeal an extra kick. Why not launch your campaign on December 1st and jump on the buzz of #GivingTuesday and reach an even wider audience?
Time to celebrate!
Another way to get involved is to simply celebrate what it is that you do and the difference that you make. It’s also great if you can get your supporters and beneficiaries to do the same and to help create a buzz about your organisation.
For inspiration have a look at how last year the Royal Albert Hall grabbed this idea and used #GivingTuesday to show the fantastic work that goes on behind the curtains and celebrate their unsung heroes through a series of short films. Probably bit much to make a series of short films in a week, but you could dig out some photos and set up some social media posts to showcase your fantastic work, or else pull together some statistics to highlight the difference you have made over the last year, and the impact your organisation has.
