A number of cadets from the RAF Section of the CCF left for RAF Halton where they were put through their paces on a high ropes and confidence course. Climbing and standing on 30-foot-high platforms, walking across impossibly thin rope bridges and taking leaps of faith to grab a trapeze bar were amongst the vertigo-inducing tasks that the boys from Wilson’s and girls from Wallington took part in.

" Stanley Park High School Mr Matt Childs has recently contributed an article to the Times Educattional Supplement the latest in a growing portfolio of regularly published articles.
The Geography Subject Leader wrote the article entitled ‘Data driven Geography can still be Fun’. This explained the way in which schools are put under pressure to meet government targets, and how this can be balanced with delivering an engaging curriculum which captures students’ attention and develops genuine interest in the subject. Referring to the relevance of the topics studied in the school’s Excellent Futures Curriculum, Mr Childs commented on how the school’s approach increases students’ awareness of issues reported in news bulletins from around the world. This in turn helps learning, leading to better retention of theoretical knowledge, understanding and case study information in preparation for exams and, therefore, significantly improved GCSE grades. As a regular contributer for the most popular education publication in the country, Mr Childs writes about a wide range of topical issues. Another article, about how to effectively induct new Y7 students, was published in September: “It is great to be able to share my knowledge and expertise in teaching and learning, and help other staff in a variety of curriculum areas and roles across the country.” Glenthorne students recently raised more than £2,000 for a local educational charity.
