The camp, at an army training facility near Folkestone, involved a range of activities to give the new Year 9 cadets a flavour of CCF life. These included the challenging obstacle course, fieldcraft activities, fiendish command tasks and a night exercise. Despite the chill wind coming in from the coast, the cadets seemed to enjoy the weekend, and were led by the CCF senior commanders (Year 13 cadets) and Year 11 junior NCOs.
New recruits to the Sutton Grammar Combined Cadet Force, including cadets from Nonsuch School, went to their first camp recently.

On Tuesday 24th November, Year 10 students from Greenshaw, Sutton Grammar and Sutton High attended an interfaith panel organised through the Sutton Faith and Belief forum. Students generated questions around religious, philosophical and ethical ideas which they then posed to representatives from the Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Hindu faiths. Chaired by Mr House, students then responded with critical reflections on the stances of some faiths on topical issues such as free will, sexuality and terrorism. The outstanding commitment of the students created an atmosphere of tolerance and acceptance which facilitated curiosity and learning, promoting mutual understanding and recognising common values. Gymnastics , art and fund raising have been celebrated at Carshalton High School for Girls.
The Carshalton High School Girls Year 8 Gymnastics team competed in a borough competition at Glenthorne High. The team came second overall as well as first and third in the advanced category. Year 10 Art students chose a theme for biro drawings which they then developed themselves. Many of the students chose "A sense of place" which links and relates to somewhere special to them, others have looked at "Texture" or "The everyday". The students were given a set time of five hours to grid up their work and complete a study from their own picture in biro using a variety of mark making techniques. The school is also very pleased and proud to announce that the collection made in school and the Penny Trail raised a total of £304.68 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Staney Park High was recently able to announce its full Ofsted report which showed it has achieved an overall grading of ‘good’ , with personal development, behaviour and welfare of students graded as ‘outstanding’ and Chair of governors Jane Pascoe has declared herself "delighted" with the result.
Commenting on the report Chair of Governors, Jane Pascoe, said on the school's website: “In 2006 we were informed that we were going to be the One School Pathfinder for the London Borough of Sutton. This designation required us to deliver an innovative 21st century education for the benefit of all of our local children, as well as act as a role model for other schools to follow. "We are delighted that the inspection team recognised that the school is unique, has taken risks in pursuit of its exciting, inclusive vision, and adopted an evolutionary rather than 'quick fix' approach. Our emphasis on the fundamental importance of relationships means we are well placed to keep on improving.” "Since releasing the report we would like to thank the many parents/carers for the supportive comments that have been made in emails, letters and via social media. One comment on Twitter particularly caught our attention. In referring to the report it said, ‘It may say good overall but what they (the school) is trying to do is outstanding. Keep on.’ "With the continued support of students and parents we intend to do just that." Wilson's School has announced that Max Riddings in Year 12 has secured an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship, sponsored by the Royal Aeronautical Society. Max will receive invaluable work experience, lectures at top universities and a grant to pursue an area of interest that relates to engineering, outside the curriculum.
Twenty eight of Cheam High’s very talented Art, Photography and Graphics students were lucky enough to exhibit their artwork at the historic Whitehall Museum in Cheam village recently. The works of art ranged from clay sculptures to graphic design t-shirts and posters. Most of the artwork was developed under the theme of ‘Expression’, though the BTEC Photographers created social awareness campaigns via the medium of photography and the BTEC Graphics class created t-shirts and magazine covers.
