The BBC School Report celebrated its 10th anniversary and Glenthorne High School was again fully involved in the proceedings.
A smaller number of students were off timetable all day to put together a video report. The story this year was about the new hub being built in the school and the question of whether a new library is necessary in the digital age. All Year 8 students got a flavour of the day through their English lessons, working on condensing news stories to create headlines and then recording their own news introductions. Carshalton College's in house training restaurant celebrated the Queen’s 90th Birthday with a five course dinner and Royale Cocktails. Guests enjoyed this delicious menu prepared by the College's catering and hospitality students.

Follow this link for further information Stanley Park High is a flourishing, vibrant secondary school for students of all abilities, which puts ‘igniting a passion for learning’ at the heart of every aspect of the school’s business. The school has recently been shortlisted as TES Secondary School of the Year. Housed in a state of the art building with superb facilities, the school has been widely recognised for its ‘innovative and imaginative approach’ and student-centered structure. Ofsted recently described the school’s focus on student personal development, behaviour and welfare as ‘outstanding’, while the school’s progressive approach has also led to it being show-cased as an example of forward thinking curriculum design, with students in years 7 and 8 following our unique, bespoke project based learning curriculum. This experiential approach continues into year 9 when students are able to choose taster sessions from a menu of 26 options choices which include both the academic and the vocational such as hospitality, vehicle technology and horticulture, with external business links ensuring all projects are ‘real’. The school prides itself on this development of a business and ‘real-world’ mindset amongst its students, which our partner-organisations should aim to build upon and reflect. We intend to offer our catering service in open tender for a new contract in September 2016. The school invites creative and innovative proposals to further develop our food and service offers. We are also looking to develop the services provided to those who use our extensive on-site sporting and leisure facilities during the evenings, weekends and school holidays. Our catering partner will help us develop an innovative and commercially successful service for our students and staff, which fully understands, and can reflect our unique student-centered and progressive ethos. Opportunities for student and local involvement should be considered including use of school-grown and local produce, work experience and curriculum links. Suitably qualified catering companies are invited to submit proposals. More information, a copy of the timetable and Invitation to Tender can be obtained from Stephen Grosvenor ([email protected] 07885 217077). Young children at a borough's primary school have had a lesson in how to enjoy healthy eating, as they took part in a workshop to create weird and wonderful fruit smoothies. Colleagues at Asda Stonecot hosted the event and donated a vibrant hamper containing fresh fruit and veg, a couple of smoothie blenders, and some planting seeds to St. Cecilia’s Catholic Primary School, located just up the road from the store. Students from Sherwood Park School have been volunteering their time in Beddington Park the park as
part of their bronze Duke of Edinburgh award programme. So far they’ve helpfully completed a range of tasks including reed clearance, litter picking and removing deadwood, most recently seeing how the grounds team recycle the wood in the wood chipper to help feed our plants.
