CEV (European Volunteer Centre) recently named London as European Volunteering Capital 2016, beating off competition from 10 other cities to win the accolade. Director of CEV, Gabriella Civico, announced: "London is an outstanding example of how local government, local people and businesses can strategically harness the benefits of volunteering to improve people's lives, the environment and contribute to socially cohesive communities."
Chris Parker, CEO of Volunteer Centre Sutton, said:
"London has a great heritage of volunteering and it's brilliant to have this legacy recognised through the European Volunteering Capital award.
"In these times of continued austerity, volunteering is increasingly providing an answer to difficult questions around community services. "We want to say a huge 'thank you' to the 50,000 people who are already making a difference in the London Borough of Sutton by volunteering their time and abilities."
The #EVCapital recognition couldn't come at a better time for the various infrastructure organisations in London that help inspire and support Londoners into volunteering.
We and the other 32 volunteer centres across London play a vital role in developing, promoting, supporting and campaigning for great volunteering across our great city. Find your local volunteer centre now.
Thank you to Team London and Greater London Volunteering, who led the campaign for London's recognition.
