Staff and students toiled in the late autumn sun to convert a piece of community land into an asset both for the students and residents.
Staff from Sainsbury’s stores around the borough joined in to help create an amenity that everyone will enjoy.
The new space will be a safe green area offering an outdoor gym, a pergola with a collection of flowers and vegetables and even a chicken run! It will be used by local residents and College students for a range of activities such as animal care, sport, horticulture or just relaxing over lunch.
“It was a fantastic effort by everyone,” said Head of Centre Ben Walsh.
“We are so grateful to everyone, especially Sainsbury’s for their fantastic effort to create what is going to be a great amenity for BedZED as a whole. It was a real team effort with some of students helping despite it being their own leisure time and did a fantastic job.
“The plants were provided by the College and Tony Reid who is a resident and manages the site. The tools were supplied by a charity called Sustainable Merton who also work with some of our students,” said Ben.
