"Sutton is proud of the children of the foster carers who are an enormous part of the fostering task. Without them and their ability to welcome the looked after children into their home placement would, more than likely, break down, " a spokesman said.
Children who need foster carers come from a wide variety of different home situations.
Many children are likely to have experienced some trauma in their lives before being brought into the care system. What they all have in common is the need for a secure and protected environment in addition to care, kindness and stability.
The looked after children in Sutton are all ages from babies through to teenagers and the borough currently especially needs foster carers for the following groups of children:
Teenagers: Caring for any teenager has its ups and downs but for a young person who has had a distressing and unsettled childhood the teenage years may be especially difficult. Teenage years are when young people are finding their feet so, although it is challenging, foster carers have a vital role in helping young people to prepare for adult life and develop confidence in themselves and their future.
Sibling Groups: Staying together with their sisters and brothers is very important to children who have had changes in their lives. Sutton always needs foster carers who can offer the time and space to groups of siblings.
Black & Minority Ethnic Children: The borough tries to place children in families that match, as closely as possible, their racial, religious, cultural and linguistic background. Therefore it needs foster carers from all parts of the community in Sutton, in particular from the Black and Asian communities.
