"This job involves interviewing the public on the telephone and structuring their problem situation using open and closed questioning skills," said a spokesperson.
"Making a decision with the client; in consultation with your Supervisor, on the most appropriate form of advice for the client. This could be: sending information; a generalist adviser giving an advice phone call; a generalist adviser appointment; a specialist adviser appointment; seeing a voluntary solicitor; making an appointment with another organisation(direct referral) or signposting to another organisation.

Collecting Social Policy issues.
Qualities you will need:
Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to write clearly.
Basic computer skills and the ability to learn some simple software packages.
Training and support:
Training will be in house including case studies; role playing live observation and supported interviewing.
Support is always available.

"We will arrange an informal meeting in the bureau where you will have the opportunity to meet other volunteers and staff. If you decide to volunteer with us, we will provide some initial training then arrange a simple interview so that we can be sure that you understand our principles such as confidentiality and independence etc. After this we will spend 3-4 weeks giving you in-depth training on interpersonal skills and effectively recording clients problems, this will be combined with listening in to live interviews. We will then monitor a number of live interviews you make before you interview solo. You will always have a supervisor available for support when interviewing."
