Sutton Council is faced with unprecedented cuts to its annual budget. They need to save £40m by 2018/19. This is on top of the £32m already saved.
"To help us reach this target we will either need to charge for or stop the green garden waste collection service.
In our recent consultation, in which over 2,000 of you took part, you said you would prefer to pay for the service rather than for it to stop," said a spokesperson.
"Please sign up now to make sure we can continue to provide a green garden waste collection service for you.
What will I need to pay?
Please note: if the new service goes ahead it will start in July 2015 for this first year and the charge will be pro rata.
What is the new service?
A wheeled bin (or bins)
A fortnightly collection (between April and December)
Details of your collection day
How will I know if the service is to continue?
"We need 10,000 customers to sign up to make sure the service is financially viable. Once the required number of customers register we will contact you to make your payment which we will need by the end of April.
We will then send you details of when you can expect to receive your bin and when your fortnightly collection will take place.
"If we do not have the required number of customers registered by 15 February 2015 we will not be able to continue and will have to stop the service from April 2015.
