New road surfacing with high-skid resistance will be laid and new lane markings on the roundabout and approach roads will improve directional guidance to reduce conflicts. Improved tactile paving will also be implemented on the pedestrian crossing, which will particularly assist visually impaired pedestrians at the signalised facilities.
The works will last for three weeks and will be carried out overnight to minimise the impact on road users. Contractors will be working from 22:00 to 05:00 Monday to Friday, and every effort will be made to ensure any noisy works are completed before midnight.
Throughout the initial phases, only lane closures will be required. However, the final resurfacing, scheduled for week commencing Monday 7 March, will mean overnight road closures and diversions will be in place.
TfL is working closely with the London Boroughs of Merton and Sutton to reduce the impact of these works on road users, local residents and businesses.
Nigel Hardy, TfL’s Head of Sponsorship, Road Space Management, Surface Transport, said: “The latest improvements we are making at Rose Hill Roundabout will make it even safer for pedestrians and easy for motorists to use the roundabout. We are committed to improving road safety and our £4bn Road Modernisation Plan is delivering better and safer junctions and crossings right across London. We’ve planned these works with the boroughs to minimise the impact to road users and thank local residents for their patience while we carry them out.”
This work, carried out by TfL’s London Highways Alliance Contract (LoHAC), forms part of TfL’s £4bn Road Modernisation Plan.
