The Blossoming Rose street market is returning to Rosehill in February after a crowd-funding campaign to re-establish the once-popular traders’ market successfully raised the £25,000 needed to bring it back to life.
The Blossoming Rose street market is led by the Rosehill Traders Association with the borough’s first-ever community-led funding application.
The £25,000 includes a grant of £13,000 from the Mayor of London’s High Street Fund and Opportunity Sutton assisted the Rosehill Traders Association with its application to the Fund. The funding will enable the Rosehill Traders Association to subsidise pitch fees for 12 weeks, as well as run an advertising campaign to promote the business opportunities on the market.
On Friday 20 November the Rosehill Traders Association will be using the Rosehill Christmas Festival and the Christmas Lights Switch On to promote the return of the street market and to advertise pitch opportunities for market traders. Over the Christmas and New Year period the Association will be securing the traders for the market for when it begins operating in February.
The street market project is supported by Sutton Council, councillors and local residents.
Cllr Jean Crossby, Chair of the St Helier, The Wrythe and Wandle Valley Local Committee of Sutton Council, said:
“We are delighted that the Blossoming Rose street market will soon return to Rosehill thanks to the support of borough residents and the Mayor of London. Re-establishing the Blossoming Rose will help bring vibrancy and prosperity back to the area as it will attract shoppers to the area, provide business and local employment opportunities, and help to bring the community together.”
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said:
“London’s high streets are the beating heart of the capital’s business community and part of what makes our city so special. However, the days of high streets being about retail alone are long gone so I am delighted to be supporting projects that seek to diversify and unlock opportunities in our most prized urban assets.”
The Rosehill Traders Association is committed to managing the market with Sutton Council’s Street Licencing Team and Town Centre Manager.
