Maggie Hughes started campaigning after a serious assault on her son Robbie in Crete.
The Chris Donovan Trust was set up by Ray and Vi Donovan following their son, Chris’s, tragic death. Chris died after being attacked in May 2001.
Since then, through the Chris Donovan Trust, Ray and Vi have been speaking to prisoners who have committed crimes ranging from petty theft to murder all over the country. They speak to men and women about their crimes and how their crimes have affected their victims, victims’ families, and communities.
The annual award event acknowledges the amazing people Ray and Vi meet through their talks, those who dedicate their own hard work to the Trust, and those who have gone through similar experiences.

“I was honoured once again to be invited to attend the Chris Donovan Trust Annual Award in Wallington to present an award. The Chris Donovan Trust often shows criminals for the first time how their victims are affected and inspires them to think twice about committing another crime again. I was also privileged to be able to present Maggie Hughes with her award. She is an inspiration to us all. As a parent, I cannot imagine the pain Maggie, Ray, Vi, and many other families go through. This is an amazing event full of brave, powerful people.”
