The new Targeted Youth Work service will work with young people and their families to reduce the number of young people going into care and to help keep young people in school.
The Targeted Youth Work will not replace the universal services the council had to reduce due to unprecedented Government cuts to its annual budget, where Sutton Council is required to save £74m from its annual budget between 2010 and 2019.
However, the council was determined to support the borough’s most vulnerable young people and so at its Children, Family and Education Committee meeting recently approved the new targeted youth service approach, while still securing annual savings of £667,000 from the council’s current youth services budget (subject to the decision not being requisitioned).
