Carshalton traders have united for a fantastic celebration of the season on December 5 when the village's Christmas lights will be turned on - and there will be so much more besides.
The event will start from 4.30pm.
The event co-ordinated by Carshalton Trader Associaton brings a range of exciting attractions for all of the family into the shopping centre as all of the shops open later in the evening.
There is going to be a hog roast, a carousel, hand bell ringers and many other events and of course Father Christmas on hand to undertake the finale which will be the turning on of the Christmas lights.
"This is the fourtt year that we have undertaken this event and it is very much about getting the Carshalton and its wider community involved in a special event before Christmas, " said a spokesperson.
"The history of the event goes back four years and was primarily set up following the constitution of the Carshalton Traders Association. Many of the local businesses in the High Street are small independent shops and we felt that in the shadow of Sutton and Wallington that Carshalton was being forgotten. The traders association was formed with the aim of bringing businesses together for the benefit of the local community and to help strengthen Carshalton’s future and maintain our village status.
"The first year we held our Christmas event was fairly low key and we were supported by the Charles Cryer theatre, the Carshalton Rotary club and Carshalton Choral society who sang Christmas carols. Many of the shops opened late and got involved by providing activities within their own premises. We did not have any Christmas lights in Carshalton that year.
"The second year was an altogether different event. The traders association had become more established and as a result we were able to secure funding for Christmas lights along the High Street and around the ponds. Businesses took a more active part in the event and despite bad weather the evening was well attended.
"Since then the event has continued to grow showcasing local artists and musicians along with local trades. It has become an established event in Carshalton’s Calendar."
