Viridor and its construction partners Lagan Construction Group, CNIM and Fichtner were making the donation to mark the achievement of reaching 100,000 working hours without a reportable incident at the site in South London.
Sheelagh McCarthy, Deputy Director of Fundraising for St Raphael’s Hospice added: We are delighted that the construction project at Beddington has been able to reach this milestone. Doing the maths, it would take an average person over 50 years to accumulate this figure and reaching it safely and therefore making this kind donation has enabled us to continue provide skilled medical care in a supportive and comfortable atmosphere in Sutton. When terminal illness strikes, it is often a most distressing time, enabling us to continue working with the community gives great comfort to those whom we serve.”
"Once operational in 2018, the £205m Beddington ERF will safely transform non-recycled waste from the four London Boroughs which make up the South London Waste Partnership into 26 MW of electricity – enough to power the facility itself plus around 30,000 homes," said a spokesperson for Viridor.
"The construction project is developing well, with the foundations nearing completion and steel work now visible. Over the summer months, the project will create more than 400 local jobs a number of local businesses including 777 Demolition and Haulage Ltd are already supporting the project. "
