Sutton's Empire Cinema has today released its latest Empire Extra listings for May and June which include the Royal Opera House performance of Frankenstein and the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Hamlet, as well as their film music playlist for April, featuring tracks from the latest releases such as Eddie The Eagle and Eye in the Sky.
The Big Dance Bus is coming to Sutton High Street to help celebrate Big Dance’s 10th anniversary: The Decades of Dance. On Saturday 9th July from 12-5pm the ‘pop up ballroom and ready made rave’ will rock up with its own dance-floor complete with DJ, MC, sound system and resident dance company to get you moving and shaking.
There will be a mixture of professional and community performances from local talent and free classes to get grand dad to groove, mum to move and sisters shaking their thing. From the Charleston to the Jive, Disco fever to 90’s raving, Hip Hop Hula to open floor jams there will be something for everyone. As part of this process the Council is seeking to understand what facilities, space and access to services are required for those running events in Sutton so that the future design of the public realm can facilitate future community events. Always at the forefront of cinema innovations, Empire Cinemas has announced its latest collaboration with crowd controlled screening company, ourscreen. This new service will allow Empire Cinemas’ customers to host screenings of their choice, at their local cinema. The Royal Photographic Society is showing three photography exhibitions dealing with different aspects of homeless during April. The RPS has secured The Magic Gallery in Charing Cross underground station and is working with different photographers to present their work in an area of London that supports a large homeless population.
The Society has the Gallery for six months and will be offering the space to photography students and Society Honorary Fellows in a series of unique collaborations from May. The three exhibitions come from: 4-10 April. Café Art a community interest company which works with London’s homeless who use photography to produce an annual fundraising calendar. The exhibition will show images taken between 2013-15. www.cafeart.org.uk The Media are invited to attend a media press call at 12 noon on Wednesday 6 April in the Magic Gallery. 11-19 April. David Tovey. Pulling the positive from the negative. Tovey experienced a period of homelessness and used photography to portray his experiences and emotions. www.davidtovey.co.uk 20-29 April. Nigel Tooby FRPS. Eye Spy. Tooby’s work tackles rough sleeping head-on integrating photography with street objects. www.nigeltooby.co.uk The Magic gallery is open from 11am-6pm Monday to Saturday, in Charing Cross Underground Arcade, London. Access is directly from the underground station or from The Strand. CAFÉ ART connects people affected by homelessness with the wider community through art. We hang artwork created in art groups run by homelessness sector organisations and hang it in independent cafes in London. We also the annual MY LONDON photography contest with disposable FujiFilm cameras. |
