Sutton’s largest festival of the arts will offer a number of events based around the works of writer HG Wells, who lived in the borough during some of his most successful years. For one group or individual the grant can rise to £1,500 if they wish to combine the Wells theme with the borough's ongoing commemorations of the centenary of World War One. And of course there is the chance for a grant to be match funded by Arts Network Sutton!
The call has already gone out to all of the borough's organisations and residents who are looking to take part in Sutton's 2016 Imagine Festival - the largest festival of the arts in the borough. Grants of up to £800 are available to help them realise their ambitions, but applicants must act fast – there are only a few days left before applications close on Monday 4 July!

A powerful new play by Abi Zakarian exposing the shifting roles and expectations of women in today’s society asking how, if ever, they can be fulfilled. It is performed by Nancy Sullivan and is visiting Carshalton's The Cryer from July 11 - 14 as part of a tour which culminates with a visit to Edinburgh Festival Underbelly 4 – 28 August Leah has lost her friends, family and dignity. Forced to move for a third time following a harrowing court case, she is sorting through all the stuff that has accumulated in her spare room: clothes she doesn't wear, books she doesn't read, things she doesn't need anymore. Leah relives painful events in her past as she desperately tries to unpick just where it all went wrong and who is really to blame. FABRIC is a hard-hitting play that deals with the aftermath of a rape. Nancy Sullivan (The Rise and Fall of Little Voice and Les Miserables) stars as Leah in this premiere production directed by Tom O’Brien. Nina is one of the artists that is appearing NiNa is a South London based, free spirited German, with a slight Irish accent, who started singing from a very young age. Influenced early on by artists such as Alanis Morissette, Lisa Hannigan, Tracy Chapman and Dolores O'Riordan, NiNa shares her life stories from the heart place, raw, authentic and acoustic. No band, no props, just her and a guitar, sharing her messages that may just leave you touched in one way or another. Paul (Captain) Watson is one of the artists that is appearing Paul (Captain) Watson, 51,been playing and singing for almost 20 years now. He was a late starter, with musical influences are Bob Marley, Paul Weller, The Specials, UB40, Noel Gallagher and David Gates. He writes his own material but also does covers which he always tries to give a reggae feel to. He is nicknamed Captain cos of his love of rum! Details For full details of the line up in each of the venue please go to: FESTIVAL LINE UP Shakespeare’s great tragedy of star-crossed lovers is set in 1964 and given a Mods and Rockers interpretation by the senior members of Croft Drama award winning Carshalton based group of seven to 18 year olds in their 24th annual fund-raising show at The Cryer.
Younger students will perform a comedy about the difficulties of casting a production of Romeo and Juliet, and also a devised physical theatre piece called The Wall, which explores the causes and consequences of war. Their target is to raise £1,700 to continue sponsoring Seth – a Camargue horse at the local Diamond Centre for Disabled Riders. Resident comedy club Laughing Coyote are bringing some of the most creative acts heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year to Carshalton for exclusive preview shows. Opening the season of previews are two acts who are no strangers to Sutton Theatres having performed shorter sets earlier this year they are back by popular demand with their full shows. Danny Buckler is a Showman Shaman in this innovative hour combining stand-up comedy with the halcyon days of variety. Lou Sanders is a force of nature on stage and brings her new hour of mayhem. A solution of Jack the Ripper’s identity is hinted at, but the play is an atmospheric commentary rather than an historical re-enactment, shifting between reality and artificiality, with characters representing “real” people as well as members of the music hall audience and players. All this is laced with memorable songs and humour. The winning entry will be announced at the start of Queen and Country - the LMP’s Fairfield Halls concert, in Croydon on Thursday 30 June, in the presence of the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Prince Edward being Patron of the orchestra.

Lindsey Simpson is one of the artists that is appearing. Lindsey Simpson is a satirical acoustic, blues, folk musician from Hull. His music takes influence from real world happenings with a hint of politics and humour. Lindsey has performed on the main stages at Hull's Freedom Festival, Filey Folk Festival, Beverley Folk Festival, Cottingham Springboard Festival and MusicPort. The largest non festival venues he has performed at include Huddersfield Town Hall, Hull City Hall and Sheffield City Hall. He has supported the likes of Michael Chapman, Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham, and John Tamms & Barry Coope. During summer 2013 Lindsey had a cider named after him!
