mix of cutting edge theatre and performance alongside popular music and comedy – and
with 10 productions from local community groups, also showing visitors what Sutton has to
offer.
embedding themselves in Sutton, this season we have inspired works from the local
community. There was a lot of fear that we would abandon the community programme and
we want to assure everyone that this is not a case. A balanced programme ensures theatres’
long term sustainability and whenever we can we will continue supporting local groups.”
The season also includes some of our biggest coups to date – the world premiere of
theatrical enfant terrible Edward Bond’s new play Dea; the critically acclaimed touring West
End production Dinosaur Park, which tells a story of fathers and sons through the medium
of Jurassic Park; Hull export Weekend Rockstars, by Middle Child and Luke Barnes, an
unapologetically Northern slice of life and theatrical gig like no other; and the latest from
the best of UK comedy, including new tours from Dave Gorman, Josh Widdicombe, Richard
Herring and Mark Steel, Edinburgh previews, and our ongoing comedy nights with Laughing
Coyote.
Sutton Theatres are also proud to announce their first resident artist – aerialist Jesús Capel.
Following research and development work at the National Centre for Circus Arts, Jesús will
be in residency at The Secombe to develop a new show and run workshops for the public,
introducing an exciting new circus skill prototype combining aerial straps and slackline.
Working with Jesús continues Sutton Theatres’ commitment to bringing spectacular circus
and dance performance to Sutton, which will continue this autumn with new shows from
Australian circus company CiRCA; What Will Have Been combining jaw-dropping acrobatics
with classical music, and The Hogwallops by Lost In Translation Circus, about a typical family
with awe-inspiring circus skills and a live original score.
With such a wide range of productions at their three performance spaces, Sutton Theatres is
aiming to give Sutton audiences a chance to see something they’ll never have seen before,
as well as making Sutton a destination for fans from further afield.
