Emily Brothers, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sutton and Cheam, has been continuing to lead calls to stop the closure of the Secombe Theatre. Through her non-partisan online petition Ms Brothers has secured over 800 signatories in just a week.
Following representations at a Council meeting last week, alongside other community petitioners, Sutton Council agreed to review their decision making process and timescales for finding an alternative to closure. However, Ms Brothers remains concerned about the uncertainty and maintains that Secombe Theatre remains at serious risk.
Whilst attending SCOLA’s Big Event in Manor Park today, Ms Brothers said:
“I’m delighted by the response from local people to my calls to save the Secombe Theatre. However, we can’t rest on our laurels, as there is much to do before the Secombe Theatre’s future is secured.
“Talking to community groups here at the SCOLA Big Event simply reinforces to me that local people care about the Secombe Theatre. It is a valued resource, somewhere they’ve enjoyed spending time watching shows and many have taken pride in productions held there.
