Always at the forefront of cinema innovations, Empire Cinemas has announced its latest collaboration with crowd controlled screening company, ourscreen. This new service will allow Empire Cinemas’ customers to host screenings of their choice, at their local cinema.
The mechanic is simple, and any cinemagoer can get involved in just three easy steps: pick a film, decide where and when they want it screened, then invite friends to gain support. If enough people book tickets, their screening will be confirmed.
Empire Cinemas, the largest independently-owned cinema chain in the UK, prides itself on offering a range of screenings that span across both mainstream blockbusters and art-house independents. This makes the unity ideal for cinemagoers as ourscreen has over 400 films on the platform, ranging from recent hits like The Lobster (2016), foreign language films including Jules et Jim (1962) and classics such as Raging Bull (1980).
Empire Cinemas are also now able to get involved with exclusive ourscreen releases like the forthcoming Blood Orange, starring Iggy Pop in his first ever leading role.
Screenings of this film will be bookable from April, with the exception of the special preview which is taking place at Empire Cinemas Newcastle on May 12th, to which tickets can be booked now. Blood Orange stars Iggy Pop as an ageing rock star living an idyllic life in Ibiza with his beautiful and very promiscuous wife, but beneath the perfect surface dark secrets lurk.
Empire Cinemas is trialling this service at regional cinemas in Wigan, Newcastle, Poole, Basildon, Hemel Hempstead and Catterick and the independent cinema chain has already had their first confirmed screening. The residents of Basildon will enjoy a showing of Pandorica, as well as a Q&A with the director Tom Paton, at Empire Cinemas Basildon on Saturday 2nd April.
Jon Nutton Marketing Director of Empire Cinemas said: “At Empire Cinemas we are always striving to provide the very best experience for cinemagoers. ourscreen will allow our customers to really get involved with their local cinema and gives movie lovers the chance to enjoy their favourite films in stunning picture and sound quality.”
David Kapur, co-CEO of ourscreen said: "We're extremely excited to be partnering with Empire Cinemas to bring ourscreen to six of their venues, in five towns which have never had access to people-powered-cinema. The fact that one screening has already been confirmed only a few days into the partnership bodes amazingly well for our future together."
