Moussa is the only employee in the morgue of the Balbala Hospital. He despairs about the sad young people who feel they have no future. On the day that the body of his friend Aziz arrives at the morgue, he vents his rage against Algeria.
It was an act of self-immolation that started the Arab Spring. An extreme gesture of social protest that spread across the Maghreb region and even further. Director Kheireddine Lardjam commissioned Mustapha Benfodil, controversial writer and journalist of the Algerian daily newspaper El-Watan, to give a voice to these people.
Cie El-Ajouad was founded in 1998 in Oran, Algeria, specialising in contemporary Algerian writers. End/Ignified was the hit of 2013 Avignon Festival. The company has been touring extensively in mainland Europe and this performance in Sutton will be their UK debut.
