From musical theatre to opera, comedy and ballet, Empire Extra invites enthusiasts to enjoy screenings of their favourite productions in the comfort of their local cinema at a fraction of the theatre ticket price. Straight to the big screen on 11th February is RSC Live – Love’s Labour’s Lost, directed by the respected Christopher Luscombe. Set in summer 1914, Love’s Labour’s Lost is one of Shakespeare’s earliest comedies. The King and his friends take an oath to avoid the company of women for three years just as the Princess of France and her ladies-in-waiting arrive, presenting them with a severe test of resolve. This production delights in championing and then unravelling an unrealistic vow…
Royal Opera House – Der Fliegende Hollander (Live), conducted by Andris Nelsons, will be showing at Empire Cinemas on 24th February. Wagner’s first masterpiece explores the themes of damnation and redemption that would fascinate the composer throughout his career. It’s the tale of a captain forced to sail the seas for eternity unless released by the faithful love of a good woman and the lonely girl who longs to save him. Wagner created two unforgettable characters operating near the limits of human emotion.
Backstreet’s back! In Empire Cinemas on February 26th is the nostalgic Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of + Live Performance (via satellite). This special screening takes us through the highs and lows from boyhood to manhood that led them back into a London studio in 2012 to write a new album, make a film and plan their 20th anniversary re-launch.
Jon Nutton, Marketing Director of Empire Cinemas, said: “Empire Extra brings the excitement of live events and stage productions from around the world to the big screen, and we’re delighted to announce three more eclectic screenings for February.”
