The visit in 1939 by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to America and to President Roosevelt's estate forms the backdrop to Hyde Park on Hudson (cert 12A) , a 2012 British historical comedy drama at Sutton Life Centre on Friday 27 February at 7pm.
Directed by Roger Michell the film stars Bill Murray as Franklin D Roosevelt and Samuel West and Olivia Colman as the King and Queen.
The royal visit, just before the outbreak of the war, is an attempt by the British to promote American support against Germany. During their stay the King and Queen visit the Roosevelts at the President's country estate at Hyde Park.
The Chicago Sun-Times gave the film 3 and-a-half stars out of 4 and said: "Murray, who has a wider range than we sometimes realize, finds the human core of this FDR and presents it tenderly."
Hyde Park on Hudson is presented by the Friends of Sutton Life Centre.
