Rachel will be leading the spoken word workshops and guide participants to re-imagine the stories of the older generation. 'We often think we don't have a voice in the world but this an unique opportunity to be heard and also respond to others' experience and be part of a performance hosted by John Hegley, who is a hero of mine! You wouldn't get this for free anywhere else!'.
'Have you heard of Kate Tempest? Daniel Kitson? Roger McGough? They are all working in different areas of spoken word/live literature. The evolution of performance poetry and storytelling to crossover forms such as hip hop and stand up hour shows has made spoken word a fresh, cutting edge medium of writing and performance.'
So why take part or come and watch the final performance?
'Are you interested in creative writing, poetry and/or performance? Do you want to be inspired, meet new friends, be open to new ways of working and find your voice in response to Sutton's Stories from the past? Do you want to see new work hosted by one of the legends of performance poetry?
Also have you ever thought of doing it but felt too shy? - we're very friendly just give it a try! Come along and be part of it, make your voice heard as part of Sutton's rich history.
