One of the most moving and meaningful plays in American theatre is to be the next Sutton Amateur Dramatic Club production at the Adrian Mann Theatre, NESCOT from 4 to 7 November.
Inherit the Wind, the gripping courtroom drama by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E Lee, is based on the true events of the ‘Scopes Monkey Trial,’ which rocked the USA in 1925 and exposed the ‘bible-belt’ to international scrutiny. A young, small-town teacher is accused of speaking out against the Word of God and prosecuted for teaching the theory of evolution.
This powerful play of humanity and universal truth portrays the clash of two legal giants of 20th century America, as they passionately present both sides of the argument. At stake was the freedom of every American.
A large cast of 28 local actors has been brought together by Sheila Carr, one of the area’s most experienced and talented directors. Consisting mostly of established actors for the club but introducing several new faces, the cast is led by Charlie Crowther-Smith (pictured right) and Jon Harris (left) as the two lawyers.
Inherit the Wind, Adrian Mann Theatre, NESCOT, Reigate Road, Epsom, Wednesday to Saturday 4-7 November, 7.45pm; tickets £12-13 www.ticketsource.co.uk/sadc (or on the door, cash only).
