Shadowlands (rated PG) is a 1993 British biographical film about the love-relationship between Oxford academic C S Lewis and American poet Joy Davidman. For many years Lewis’s life had followed the same comfortable patterns - as teacher, writer, and bachelor who lives with his brother. From his children's books, his science fiction and his pop theology, Lewis has gained a following. Then the most extraordinary thing takes place. He falls in love with someone who writes him an admiring letter.
The New York Times said: “Shadowlands is acted with great tenderness by both Ms. Winger, who seems vigorous and sprightly … and Mr. Hopkins, who is simply wonderful.”
