Dora Carrington (Emma Thompson), first meets bon vivant and writer Lytton Strachey (Jonathan Pryce) and the two creative souls are mutually attracted although Strachey’s desires clearly lie elsewhere.
“Starting with the indispensable presence of Thompson in the title role, it has such assets as literary interest, sparkling dialogue, droppable famous names (Bertie Russell and Virginia Woolf), grand houses and gardens, exuberant Bloomsbury decor and a continuous art exhibition worked into the narrative. Carrington can also boast lovely English landscapes, languid country walks and picnics, and the sly fun of watching Strachey and Carrington juggle each new sexual threat to their delicate balance.”
New York Times
“Beautifully crafted, wittily scripted and intelligently realised with Pryce giving the Cannes award-winning performance of a lifetime.”
