After considering several options for a new venue for the Jazz Club, Carshalton College, was a clear winner. From September, the College will be providing their 100-seater ‘Nightingales Restaurant’ for exclusive Tuesday evening use for the Jazz Club.
Staff and students at the College, which teaches almost 4,000 students over 130 courses, are very excited about the prospect of a Jazz Club residency. Janet Smith, Head of College said: "We're delighted to welcome Carshalton Jazz Club at the College ane look forward to a long-term partnership and some great musical evenings in our Nightingales Restaurant."
David Burr, Manager of Carshalton Jazz Club said: “We are buzzing about the new venue; the College has strong local connections; and provides a fantastic stage area large enough to accommodate a six-piece Swing or Dixieland band or a sixteen-piece ‘Big Band’. We will be able to retain existing ticket prices; provide guests with flexible seating and table arrangements; and most important of all - a licensed bar! We’re looking forward to putting on a fabulous show for the grand re-opening in September.”
Guests to the new Carshalton Jazz Club venue will be able to access the club without going through the College, and transport links to the good including the nearby 127, 151 and 157 bus routes. Carshalton Station is a 4-5 minute walk and the site provides secure parking.
The real ‘sweet spot’ is that the College’s restaurant ‘Nightingales’ – a well-established showcase for the Catering College – may be open to guests on Tuesday Jazz nights. Jazz lovers can expect to enjoy appetizing bar snacks, tasting platters and hotpot suppers. Sounds like Carshalton College will certainly be hitting all of the right notes!
