Over 30 free events will take place over the course of two weeks across the borough and attractions will include dance, music, spoken word and shadow puppetry performances. The festival opens on Saturday 17 October at Wallington Library and Gardens with live music throughout the day. A community poetry trail featuring poems especially written by local young people will be displayed at Beddington Park for the duration of Imagine Festival which residents can enjoy at any time.
The Phoenix Centre in Wallington will host the début of specially-written dance performance Flight of Dance on Tuesday 27 October which will tell the history of Croydon Airport, with props including 500 paper aeroplanes supplied by Foresters Primary School.
Cllr Ruth Dombey, Leader of Sutton Council, said:
“The line-up for this year’s Imagine Festival is testament to the hard work and organisation of the planning team. There are so many things to look forward to – we can’t wait to enjoy these great events and see local performers on stage.
“We’re very excited to welcome big names like John Hegley to the festival. Who knows? Perhaps Imagine Festival 2015 will inspire the next superstar poet. I know everyone in Sutton will find something to enjoy during this year’s festival.”
