Overton Grange School, a comprehensive school for 11-19 year olds in South Sutton, has received a glowing Ofsted report following their inspection at the end of January.
The Ofsted inspectors declared that Overton Grange “is a good academy” and praised staff and governors for their overall effectiveness in providing a high quality of all-round education. The pupils’ GCSE and A Level results and the quality of teaching were particular strengths.
“Teachers have high expectations. They use secure subject knowledge to engage the interest of all pupils, including learners in the sixth form.” The inspectors also reported that: “Pupils’ personal development, behaviour and welfare are good. Pupils say that they feel safe. They know how to keep safe and to seek the help, care and guidance the academy offers.” The pupils “enjoy the vast majority of lessons” and “value their education.”
There was recognition, too, of the range and quality of opportunities available to pupils as they prepare for adult life. “The curriculum is diverse. A wide range of extra-curricular activities allows pupils to explore diversity. This develops their spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding. Pupils are carefully guided to make appropriate choices for their next stage of education, training or employment. ”
The Headteacher, Mr Peter Butterworth, commended the students for their general conduct and attitude to learning which was also recognised by the inspectors who wrote: “Pupils’ attendance is good. They generally behave well and are supportive towards each other. This enables all pupils, including those accessing the hearing impairment resource, to be included well in academy life.”
