It has a long standing experience of working with apprentices who learn on the job, build up knowledge and skills and gain qualifications, all whilst earning a wage at the same time. Apprentices work towards National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and other nationally recognised qualifications which enable them to continue their education and gain skills required by employers. Carshalton College has worked with large and well known employers for many years and has some of the highest success rates of any College around. The key benefits of apprenticeships include:
On Tuesday 19 January, Sutton High School U13 gymnastics squad took part in the Surrey Floor and Vault competition at St Catherine's School. The girls performed brilliantly and finished as runners up in Surrey.
Fourteen teams competed at this championships and the standard was extremely high. Our girls showed focus and great skills throughout the day and delighted the judges with their floor routines. All girls scored 8.3 or higher. "The team must be congratulated on finishing second and therefore becoming runners up in Surrey. We wish them all good luck and continued success at the weekend when they will be competing in the Milano Team Competition at Tormead School," said a statment on the school's website. Sutton High School Year 7 pupils had a special form time, discussing relationships and the issue of bullying.
Aided by a video made by Year 11 students, the whole of the year came together and in small groups reflected about the impacts and causes of bullying from a range of perspectives. "The girls were clearly knowledgeable about the topic and were able to build on this to think carefully about their own behaviour and actions, as well as others in the year. It was lovely to hear the girls sensitively and maturely sharing ideas. Year 7 will have another form time on the topic after half term," said a spokesman. Four Greenshaw students have recently participated in the Royal Society of Chemistry 'Top of the Bench' competition.
The four members of the teamcompeted against other schools from across the borough for a chance to represent Greenshaw nationally. The competition involved each student completing a practical task and a multiple choice test. Some of the experiments included were a titration and a displacement reaction. Stanley Park High School’s first ever Winter Festival was a huge success!
The event took place on Wednesday 16th December and was run by the Governors’ Business and Enterprise Group. The event aimed to showcase the best of Year 9 Project-Based Learning to parents and to the local community. On display were examples of projects that make learning relevant to the real world and prepare students for when they leave school and an impressive 20 of our 26 option subjects were showcased. Many visitors spent time examining this work; their vital feedback will continue to shape projects. "The event was a huge success and we have had enthusiastic accolades from students, staff, stall holders and prominent members of our local community and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved. The event also raised valuable funds for the school. We are looking forward to holding an even larger event later this year!" said a statement on the school's website. Carshalton High School for Girls Year 9 students will be taking part in the First Give Programme as part of their Citizenship studies
The Programme will be conducted during normal timetabled Citizenship lessons and requires students to identify social issues in their local area and engage with charities who address them. Carshalton College Level 3 Beauty Therapy students were welcomed back to College this week with a visit to GLL Spa in Wimbledon. Students were treated to a mini treatment and were able to unwind in the relaxation area and Spa.
HA host of exciting Extended Project Qualification research projects for students have been launched this week by Stanley park high School.
One student, after researching theatre genres, theatre history and famous figures with mental health issues, has decided to write a play about schizophrenia, exploring this condition from a myriad of creative angles. Another student will address the rising threat to malware to security companies. One student wishes to examine the humane and inhumane practices of prisons in the UK whilst another explores cutting edge technology by evaluating a range of user-interfaces and their use. Again based on media, a final Sixth Former considers how self-image might be affected by various social media platforms. We wish them luck in their research explorations. |
