For the first time, Sutton Council has launched an online employer survey which will help inform training providers in the area about the type of courses which should be provided to help the borough’s businesses thrive in the long run.
It is one of the first councils in the country to launch such a survey.
It will also help the council to better understand the overall needs of local firms and work with local schools and colleges to meet them.
The aim is to ensure the borough’s residents have the skills required to meet the needs of local businesses, now and in the future.
Jayne McCoy, Chair of the Housing, Economy and Business Committee, said:
“Times are tough for businesses right now, but we are lucky in Sutton to have thousands of shoppers visiting our town and district centres each year.
“We want to help local firms take advantage of the borough’s location close to central London, plus our excellent schools and colleges, to build the competitive edge they need in the marketplace.
“Investing in the skills and talents of our residents, and helping our businesses to find the workforce they need, is key to Sutton’s prosperous future.”
Sue Towner, the Chair of the Federation of Small Businesses for North Surrey, said:
“We are pleased to support this initiative in Sutton and that skills are being targeted.
“Small businesses are the backbone of the economy but, in order to grow, they need employees with the right educational background and we hope Sutton succeeds in its ambitions for a more prosperous future by supporting training.”
The survey takes just 10 minutes to complete and includes mostly multiple choice questions about your business, with answers remaining confidential unless permission is otherwise given.
