Students from across the borough enjoyed a fortnight of work experience this year at Sutton Police Station, where they got to meet specialist teams, some police dogs, and the Mounted branch.
PC Peter Lytton said "The youngsters were keen to learn about the police and how we work with the public to keep communities safe."
Sutton EBP works with local schools to place students on work experience every year with an aim to prepare them for life in the working world.
What is work experience?
Work experience is a placement with an employer in which a young person will carry out a range of tasks in much the same way as an employee. This provides the opportunity to learn about the skills that are important in the working world whilst learning about how a company operates and about future career opportunities.
Placements usually last between one to two weeks, however this may vary, and the placements also form a part of A-levels, apprenticeships and other post 16 learning courses.
How does work experience help students?
Through work experience, students are able to develop their employability skills such as teamwork, problem solving and communication, together with numeracy, literacy and ICT skills. This gives them a clearer understanding of the working world and provides the base for making the right career choices.
