Efforts by police to promote Sutton Neighbourhood Watch over the last five years has seen membership rise from 900 to more than 4,700 members - making Sutton the largest Neighbourhood Watch borough in London.
On Monday, 23 March, officers from Wallington North Safer Neighbourhoods Team were at Wallington Green chatting to residents and offering crime prevention advice - and encouraging residents to sign up to NHW, which encourages residents to be vigilant, report anyone acting suspiciously on 999 immediately and to help keep an eye out for elderly and vulnerable neighbours.
Today, Tuesday, 24 March, officers will be at the Westcroft Leisure Centre and Library between 10am-1pm and on Wednesday, 25 March in Bute Road near Holy Trinity Primary School between 2-5pm.
Wallington North Sergeant David Moth said NHW has an important part to play in helping police keep Sutton a low crime borough and one of the safest boroughs in London.
"Having the largest NHW membership in London gives us lots of opportunities to encourage residents to protect their homes and vehicles and reduce the chances of them becoming a victim of crime.
"We want residents to report anyone acting suspiciously, such as someone they don't recognise hanging around outside a house or near a vehicle. This will help send a message to criminals that they are not welcome in our borough."
He added: "NHW is also about helping protecting elderly and vulnerable people - and this will become increasingly important over the coming years as people live longer."
