Plans to build two new business units on the Kimpton Industrial Estate in Kimpton
Road, Sutton were given the green light on Wednesday night last week.
Consent was given to plans submitted by Salmon Properties Ltd for two buildings;
one of 7,407 sqm and the other 1,556 sqm which the council believes will attract new
firms and create new jobs.
The estate is a designated business improvement district which is supported by
Sutton Council.
The application followed the decision by internationally-renown Designplan Lighting
to relocate to larger premises on the estate. The firm, which makes industrial lights
and has more than 150 employees, has begun an expansion programme.
The council’s planning committee decided the two new units would improve the
character of the area and enable other firms to expand or move to the borough. The
site is a designated business area where the council wants to encourage commercial
developments.
Cllr Richard Clifton, Chair of Sutton Council’s Planning Committee, said:
“This is an important development for the estate as it is an opportunity to attract
more firms into the area and boost local business expansion.
“Supporting our local companies is one of our top priorities and we will do everything
we can to help job creation.”
