The petition, which had 691 signatures, was placed in the bag behind the Speaker’s Chair in the House of Commons. It has been sent to the Government.
Speaking after presenting the petition, Tom said: “
‘‘It’s clear that many residents are concerned that a vital part of frontline health services are at threat of being taken away from communities. These closures could deprive many people from receiving easily accessible medicines advice and valuable support from trained professionals.’’
The overwhelming feeling against the Government’s proposals is obvious, residents don’t want pharmacy closures and don’t want their communities losing such a valuable service in the face of more brutal and unnecessary cuts from the Government.”
Tom has been working closely with leading pharmacists who are running a postcard, petition and online campaign called #loveyourpharmacy. Tom spoke recently at an event organised by the pharmacists where they, Healthwatch representatives and customers were able to put their concerns about the closures to Tom. He has since taken them up with the Health Minister.
