Guests at Friday’s gala dinner, hosted by DJ and radio personality James Whale, saw The Projekt Store take home the coveted Business of the Year trophy.
Earlier the menswear retailer had collected the award for Best Business for Marketing and Social Media for its use of social media channels to promote sales and engage with customers.
A stunned Giorgio Podesta, manager of the Sutton High Street business, said: “This is the only award that I had no idea about, so thank you, it’s amazing.”
Opening the awards ceremony at the Holiday Inn Sutton, David Duncan, chairman of Sutton Chamber of Commerce, said: “With the investment and development taking place in Sutton currently this is certainly a great town to be running a business in.”
Hundreds of companies entered the awards, organised by Successful Sutton, Opportunity Sutton and Sutton Chamber of Commerce.
Hair salon Frank Di Lusso started the night on a high after being named Best New Business.
Owner Frank Di Lusso, who received the award to rapturous applause, said it was recognition for the team and all their efforts: “It doesn’t just happen by chance, you have to work hard. We are really, really chuffed.”
The salon also collected the Best Independent Retailer award and was highly commended in the customer service award category.
Family-run Elwyns, which has notched up more than 52 years in business, scooped the award for Best SME Business. The Vine Project was honoured as Best Social Enterprise and Chiltern Health Centre was the recipient of the Best Business for Customer Service award.
Other winners on the night were Haweli of Belmont, which was named Best Business for Hospitality and Leisure, while The Moon on the Hill collected the award for Best Business for Training and Development.
More than £1,100 was raised on the night for Sutton Mencap and the celebrations continued into the early hours with live music from Ruby and the Rhythms.
Now in their second year, the awards reward and celebrate commercial excellence, innovation and entrepreneurial flair within the borough.
The awards are backed by Sutton Council and headline sponsor CNM Estates and supported by a number of businesses in the borough including Holiday Inn Sutton, Carshalton College, Aidan Phelan Salons, Mears and Swipii.
Councillor Jayne McCoy, chair of the housing, economy and business committee at Sutton Council, said: “These are really exciting times for Sutton.
