Police are appealing for information after World War I flying medals from the Western Front were stolen in a burglary in Windsor Avenue, Sutton.
The burglary took place on Tuesday, 1 December between 06:45-20:30hrs after entry had been forced through a rear window.
The medals (see photo) belonged to the resident's grandfather who served as a pilot with the Royal Naval Air Service and then with the Royal Air Force.
Other items stolen included:
- a silver trophy cup supported by a tripod of three .303 Lee Enfield rifles with fixed bayonets. Standing about 8ins high, it was awarded for musketry or shooting
- silver trophy cup in a bowl shape with rings on the outside. Standing about 6ins high, it was awarded to the winners of the Naval Field Gun Race
- a silver plated ash tray with a tiger's head in the centre. It was awarded for 'district shooting'
- a number of silver plated tea spoons with a tiger's head on the handles.
