More information on World Hunger Day:
Over the last 20 years, significant improvements have been made in world poverty. Since 1990 those living in extreme poverty have been cut in half. This means, each day 17000 less children (per day) are dying. Improved awareness and actions taken by organisations like The Hunger Project, have allowed the education and development needed to make such changes.
There is still a long way to go though. With over 800 million living in poverty around the world, The Hunger Project aims to end hunger and poverty by 2030. They believe this can be achieved by improving education, specifically for girls and supporting women and their families. Thus leading to healthier families, with more children attending school. With better education and improved agricultural productivity, this in turn leads to improved income and wealth. All this can only be achieved though, by improved communication in wealthier countries. Meaning a change of how their own people and leading governments act too.
