Police are urging drivers to remove property from their vehicles and to make sure they are locked and secured before leaving them unattended following 11 thefts from vehicles between Thursday, 21 April - Monday, 25 April.
Four of the offences were in Worcester Park. Number plates were stolen from a vehicle in Boscombe Road between 21-23 April. In the same road, tools stolen from a vehicle after its quarter light window had been smashed between 20:00hrs on Friday, 22 April and 15:00hrs on Saturday, 23 April.
Also in Worcester Park, a wallet was stolen from a car after one of its windows had been smashed in Inverness Road between 23:00hrs on Friday, 22 April and 08:00hrs on Saturday, 23 April. In addition, a sav nav was stolen from a vehicle after its quarter light window was removed in Caverleigh Way between 22-24 April.
At the other locations cash and even a lunch box were amongst the items stolen.
The other addresses were Wordsworth Drive, Cheam; Montpelier Road, Sutton; Egmont Road, Sutton; Warwick Road, Sutton; Mayfield Road, Sutton; Cedar Road, Sutton; and Mollison Square, Wallington.
Police carry out regular, uniformed and plain clothes patrols to target known vehicle offenders. Officers also run frequent roadside checks on main routes and back roads to stop vehicles that may be connected with criminal activities.
Police advice includes:
- close your vehicle windows and sunroof; lock the doors and activate any security devices when leaving your car; double-check the doors are locked especially if using a remote key fob
- remove all your property from inside your vehicle when it is parked including cash, credit cards, mobile phones, ipods, sunglasses, shopping bags, vehicle documents and your sat nav and its holder
- consider anti-tamper screws to protect your number plates (available from good motor retailers.
