Motorbike and quad bike riders using Roundshaw Downs as a playground for their stunts will face being dealt with by police officers.
Following concerns from local residents, police have increased their patrols, and last weekend, Sutton’s Safer Parks Team police officers carried out an operation on the Downs to disrupt the riders’ anti-social behaviour.
A man, aged 39, riding a quad bike off road and carrying out ‘wheelies’ on Saturday, 14 May was stopped and reported for an offence of riding off road contrary to Section 34 Road Traffic Act 1988. He was also issued with a Section 59 Police Reform Act 2002 warning. This warning is issued to the person and vehicle. It lasts for 12 months. If within the 12 months, the offender rides any vehicle or his vehicle in an anti-social manner anywhere again, then the vehicle can be seized by police.
Safer Parks Sgt Pat Dolan said: “Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and will be dealt with robustly. We have an array of tactics that the police can use to combat this problem. Parks and Safer Neighbourhoods officers have extra patrols in the area and we are deploying our CCTV van to gather evidence for future prosecutions,” he said.
