Police are appealing for a male dog walker to come forward after a large reddish brown dog was reported to have bitten a woman, aged in her 60s, whilst she was walking in Sutton Court Road opposite B&Q on Thursday, 7 April at around 18:10hrs.
The woman was walking along the pavement towards a man with a dog and as she got closer, asked if the dog was friendly. The dog owner, whose dog was on a lead and muzzled, replied the dog 'can be a bit funny'. As she put her hand out, the dog growled and bit her finger. The dog owner apologised and walked away in the direction of Langley Park Road.
The victim came into the front office of Sutton Police station to report what had happened. She was taken to hospital with a puncture wound to the middle finger of her right hand.
The dog walker is described as male, white, aged in his 30s, about 5ft 8in - 5ft 10in tall and of slim build. He had short, light brown 'mousy' hair and was clean shaven.
The dog is described as a small Rottweiler possible cross, golden honey in colour with a long tail and blue muzzle.
Police have a range of powers to deal with anti-social behaviour by dog owners to make sure dogs are kept under control including engaging with owners and the issuing of warning letters, control orders and community protection notices.
PC Heath Keogh, who runs the borough's initiative to promote responsible dog ownership and tackle anti-social behaviour by dogs, said: "We would like this dog owner to come forward so we can engage with him."
The dog owner is being asked to contact Sutton Police Station on 101.
