“The pipe has burst several times recently indicating that it has reached the end of its lifespan. Despite several attempts to repair it, it’s become clear that this important strategic main is in a very poor condition and is no longer able to hold the pressures required to carry the water that we need it to,” explained David Plumadore, Engineering Technician for Sutton and East Surrey Water. “It transfers water from our Langley Park Reservoir and supplies customers in Sutton, Carshalton and Morden, so it’s essential that it’s replaced.
“However, due to the position of the main in the highway, the road will have to be closed for about 12 weeks. A diversion route agreed with the London Borough of Sutton will be in place. The good news is that once the work is completed, both existing and future customers in the area can be assured of receiving a reliable supply of top quality drinking water for many years ahead.”
Letters have been sent to those immediately affected and SESW is working closely with the council, local schools and businesses to keep them fully informed. The company has apologised in advance for any inconvenience these essential works may cause and thanked local residents and road users for their patience.
The £115,000 improvement project is part of SESW’s multi-million pound mains replacement investment programme and is expected to complete by the end of July.
