People of Cheam are being urged to donate chocolate eggs to the Garwood Foundation and beat last year's collection of 500 chocolate eggs.
For the first time, the annual Access Self Storage Easter Egg Appeal is open to residents of Cheam. Generous locals are being challenged to beat last year’s national collection, which saw 500 chocolate eggs given to eight charities across the UK.
Every chocolate egg collected in Cheam will go to the Garwood Foundation, an independent local charity which provides services and support to adults and children with disabilities.
“We’re donating a sizeable storage room to house as many chocolate eggs as possible, so if you’re buying Easter Eggs for friends and family, please think of the children and adults who are cared for by the Garwood Foundation, who may not all get visitors over Easter, let alone a chocolate egg,” said Gabriel Kroukamp, manager of Access Self Storage Cheam.
“Any chocolates, biscuits or cakes you kindly drop off will be stored safely here and taken straight to the Foundation,” Kroukamp continued. “Easter is even earlier this year, but if we can collect enough eggs over the next few weeks, we’ll make it an even happier occasion for many who are in need of magic and cheer if they can’t be at home with their families.”
Staff have already begun collecting eggs and people are invited to bring donations into the Cheam store any time before March 24th. The eggs will then be delivered to the Garwood Foundation.
Over the past five years, Access Self Storage has collected over 2,000 chocolate eggs for dozens of UK charities. In 2015, the most generous participating town giving the most chocolate eggs to the Access Self Storage Easter Egg Appeal was Coventry, collecting 140 eggs, followed by Manchester with 100 and nearby Kingston in third place with 54 eggs. In 2014, Kingston was the second most generous town, once again collecting 50 eggs.
Kroukamp said: “It is hoped that these eggstra statistics will encourage residents of Cheam to want to smash Kingston’s record and help us collect more than 54 eggs to help our chosen charity”.
